The additional sensor is mounted closer to the wheel-rail interface than the body or bogie sensors, capturing shorter-wavelength track defects and wheel condition data that aren’t visible further up the vehicle.

TrackRiderPro Overview

TrackRider Pro combines the full TrackRider and TrackRider Plus capability set: ride quality, hunting detection, secondary suspension performance, and accurately measured track geometry with an additional, compact axlebox sensor that sits right at the wheel-rail interface.

This sensor detects shorter-wavelength track faults that body and bogie-level sensors can’t resolve, along with wheel impact events, wheel wear trends, rail corrugation and squats. It also supports axle bearing condition monitoring, extending visibility from the track itself to the rolling stock component most directly exposed to it.

More Specific Capabilities

Short-Wavelength Track Faults

Detects fine-grained, short-wavelength track defects at higher accuracy than bogie-level sensing can achieve.

Operational value:

Some of the most damaging track defects that drive component wear and ride discomfort exist at wavelengths too short for body or bogie sensors to reliably capture. Getting this resolution from an in-service axlebox sensor closes a gap in remote condition monitoring.

Rail Corrugation

Identifies the wave-like wear pattern of rail corrugation over time.

Operational value:

Difficult to detect without close-to-rail sensing, corrugation drives increases in noise, vibration and accelerated wear on both track and rolling stock. Catching corrugation early means it can be addressed with routine maintenance decreasing the likelihood of more significant rail work later.

Axle Bearing Monitoring

Tracks axle bearing condition as part of the axlebox sensors dataset.

Operational value:

Bearing failures are safety-critical and costly when they’re not caught early. Continuous, in-service monitoring adds another layer of assurance, supporting existing safety-critical processes with early warning and decision support data.
